Government-Did-Not-Warn-Religious-Leaders-Information-Minister-Jerolinmek-M.-Piah

Information Minister, Jerolinmek M. Piah, has clarified that he did not warn religious leaders at the regular press briefing as reported by this paper in its Wednesday, November 19, 2025 edition. However, Piah said he cautioned citizens against playing politics with legal matters and religion. He wants citizens to separate religion from politics, particularly when it comes to national and legal issues.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia on November 18, 2025, Minister Piah said religion should not be used to determine national and legal issues in the country because doing so may have a negative impact, judging from the history of religious divisiveness that plunged the country into a dark time.

According to the Minister, religion is not a unifying factor in society; rather, it is a divisive one that people should stop using to decide legal issues because justice is blind and has no attachment to any religious institution or organization. The Minister warned that politicizing religion can be detrimental to the country, as it can lead to division, conflict, and even violence.

The Minister’s statement comes as a result of a court eviction on November 13, 2025, in Red Light, Paynesville, where there was violence between the police and residents who are believed to be members of the Muslim religion. The police made multiple arrests, and the incident sparked a national conversation.
