Pro-democracy group, Solidarity For A New Day (STAND) has vowed to lead a mass protest in Monrovia to speak against what it terms as ‘deepened oppression across the land.’ Recently, the group congratulated Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti on the U.S. Extension of Visa Validity for Liberian Travelers from 12 to 36 months.

The group in a release issued in Monrovia on October 29, 2025, congratulated Beyslow and the Boakai-led Government for their successful diplomatic engagement that resulted in the United States’ decision to extend visa validity for Liberian travelers from 12 months to 36 months. STAND extended profound appreciation to U.S. President Donald J. Trump, under whose administration, U.S. Secretary of State Michael Rubio announced this major policy advancement.

According to the release, STAND Chairman Mulbalh K. Morlu, Jr., noted that this milestone achievement, spearheaded by Minister Nyanti’s office in collaboration with Liberia’s diplomatic missions overseas, represents not only a triumph of diplomacy but also a resounding testament to her effective leadership and unwavering commitment to enhancing Liberia’s international reputation.

“The new visa arrangement will strengthen people-to-people connections, boost trade and educational opportunities, and ease the long-standing challenges faced by Liberians seeking short-term travel to the United States,” the release stated.

STAND indicated that this breakthrough, following Minister Nyanti’s recent meeting with Secretary Rubio in Washington, D.C., underscores a renewed era of mutual respect and cooperation between the Republic of Liberia and the United States of America, adding that the updated U.S. visa reciprocity schedule reflects the shared commitment of both nations to deeper engagement and fair partnership.

“This decision affirms that Liberia’s voice is once again being heard on the world stage,” said STAND Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr. “Minister Nyanti’s diplomacy and the Ministry’s proactive leadership have produced a result that will directly benefit countless Liberians — students, entrepreneurs, and families alike,” Morlu said.

However, Morlu, in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 30, 2025, stated that while STAND welcomes Liberia’s diplomatic progress, it will not be silent as oppression deepens across our land. “December 17 is the people’s day — No Retreat, No Surrender. The cry for change and justice will roar from every county and district, shaking the walls of the Executive Mansion, where we shall gather unstoppable,” Morlu wrote.  According to him, first, this Saturday in Congo Town, the December 17 Peaceful Resistance will be officially launched, ending his write-up with “The people — the December Octopus — have been awakened, and there is no turning back!”
