The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has mandated its Committee on Judiciary and Internal Affairs to investigate concerns relative to the indictment of the local leadership of Gbarpolu County, including Superintendent Sam K. Zinnah. She wants the indictees relieved of their post to face justice.
The Senate’s action comes in the wake of a communication from Gbarpolu County Senator, Botoe Kanneh. According to Senator Kanneh, Gbarpolu County Superintendent, Sam K. Zinnah was indicted by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) on multiple charges, including economic sabotage, theft of property, tax evasion, and violation of procurement and public finance laws.
She explained that the indictment stemmed from a procurement of three earth-moving equipment funded under the Gbarpolu County Social Development Fund. Others indictees include Omaru Sheriff, General Manager, City Lion,
- Kayeh Saah, former superintendent, Anthony Yorkor, Former Fiscal Superintendent and Robert Benda, former Chairperson, Project Management committee.
Senator Kanneh indicated that the situation has caused deep concern among citizens, local leaders and development stakeholders in the county stressing that these acts undermine public trust, as well as the justice system and integrity of public service. Senator Kanneh maintained that in adherence to the Code of Conduct for public officials, it will be prudent that Plenary take cognizance of the LACC indictment and ongoing judicial proceedings and engage the Executive Branch of Government to ensure that the indicted Superintendent is temporary relieve of his duties pending the determination of the case . The communication was received by plenary and turned to the relevant committees for appropriate actions and report within a week.
