Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Deputy Minister, Daniel Sando said the statement by the President of the Press Union of Liberia is baseless and a distortion of the facts.  ‎‎Sando said  the commitment the government of Liberia has shown to freedom of the press since President Joseph Boakai took over has witnessed the establishments of many radio stations thus creating a free space for journalists to carry out their duties without intimidation.

‎‎According to him, the President of the Press Union of Liberia should focus on regulating the media and journalists’ conduct rather than misinforming the public about his baseless claims. He noted that the government has created a space for journalists to report on critical issues.‎‎ “Mr. President of the Press Union of Liberia, stop misinforming the public and focus on regulating journalists who are going against the ethical principles of good journalism. This government has no plans of going against the press. Be warned,” Sando said.

‎‎On September 30, 2025, delivering the 61st anniversary speech of the Press Union of Liberia, Julius Kanubah said the Press Union of Liberia has survived oppressive governments. He urged the Boakai administration not to follow the ugly path of its predecessors, as doing so could let the people of Liberia down.
