The war on illicit drugs seems to be gaining momentum as the interim team at the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) is leaving no stone unturned in the fight. Leading by example, six officers assigned in Bomi County have tested positive for illicit drugs from a random testing exercise authorized by the acting leadership and have been immediately ejected from the Agency.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, September 22, 2025, LDEA Officer In-Charge, Fitzgerald Biago, said out of those who tested positive, five are volunteers, while one is an employee of the agency. Biago disclosed that the officers who tested positive for drugs include volunteers Larwou Yekeh, C. Tony Granett, Nyumah Millimono, Lawrence J. Fejue, Milton Berh, and Roosevelt T. Kollie, an employee of LDEA. The Officer-in-Charge said volunteer officers are discharged from all activities of LDEA, while Roosevelt T. Kollie is suspended indefinitely with immediate effect and turned over to the LDEA’s Professional Standards Division for investigation.
He said the LDEA will continue to implement this unannounced mandatory drug testing exercise for all officers, noting that the action against the officers is just the beginning, and they are committed to purging the agency of any elements that compromise its credibility and mission.
“To the Liberian people, we want you to know that your safety and the future of our youth remain our highest priority. The LDEA stands firm and unwavering in its commitment to restore dignity to this institution and to deliver results that Liberians can trust,” Biago said.
Meanwhile, Biago said as part of their reform efforts, they have withdrawn all LDEA personnel assigned to the Roberts International Airport due to concerns of misconduct. He indicated that out of eight officers recalled, two are currently under investigation for underreporting the quantity of narcotics confiscated during a recent airport seizure. He maintains that the LDEA will not tolerate any acts of corruption, negligence, or actions that undermine the integrity of the agency.
