The University of Liberia (UL) has disclosed that it hosted the first-ever entrance exams for prospective students with Visual Impairments in July 2025. Speaking Monday, August 18, 2025, at the main campus of the university, Dr. Layli Maparyan, President of the University of Liberia, said the entrance was spearheaded by the Resource Center for Disability Services and Support, Alternative Learning (RCDSSAL) and the Liberia UniPOD.
She said it required both creating and administering a Braille version of the entrance exam for some test-takers and providing special visibility-enhancing computer software for other visually impaired test-takers.
According to her, the results of this exam will be released to the press as soon as they are available. For his part, Moses S.E. Hinneh Jr., Director of the Center for Testing and Evaluation at the University of Liberia, said they routinely conduct entrance examinations and aptitude assessments as part of the admission process for its undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools.
He noted that the results of these examinations are utilized to identify candidates who are qualified to undertake collegiate coursework without additional high school preparation. “The examinations are offered in two formats: the Paper-Based category and the computer-based category”, he added.
According to him, for a candidate to be successful in the UL Entrance and Placement Examination, he/she must score at least 70 percent or above in English and 60 percent or above in Mathematics. “We are also pleased to inform you that UL just concluded an eight-week vacation school for mainly junior and senior students to make up for courses they may have foregone”, he said. He explained that this measure is strategic to allow students to complete all their academic requirements and be eligible to apply for graduation on time.
