Leaders and residents of Grand Cape Mount County have overwhelmingly embraced the recent launch of the Ministry of Health’s Community Pharmacy/Revolving Drug Fund Program, aimed at preventing stock-outs of essential medicines at health facilities and improving access to quality healthcare across the country.
According to Ministry of health release issued on Saturday, May 17, 2025, the rebranded program was launched at the Sinje Comprehensive Health Center through the Ministry’s Community Pharmacy Program.
Deputy Health Minister for Policy, Planning, and M&E, Malayah Tamba Chieyoe expressed gratitude for the community’s reception and stressed the importance of local support.
“This initiative is one that the Minister of Health strongly supports. It also has the full backing of the President, H.E. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, the Legislature, and the government as a whole,” said Chieyoe. “But most importantly, your community’s support assures us that this will succeed. Without your involvement, it won’t work, and I want to thank you for standing behind this initiative.” He emphasized.
He noted the program’s endorsement by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, the Legislature, and the government at large, but said community involvement is essential to the initiative’s success.
“As we roll out the Revolving Drug Fund, we are fully aware that proper management is critical, we don’t want to start something we can’t sustain. That’s why we’re investing in training immediately after this launch, we’ll host a Training-of-Trainer’s workshop to build capacity in financial management, and once again we are very glad that you welcome this program” he concluded.
Local leaders, including District Commissioner Hon. Kandakai Kiazolu-Garwula and Town Chief Mr. Anthony Sembeh, welcomed the new program and pledged full community support. Mr. Sembeh confirmed that the community had reviewed and accepted the scheme wholeheartedly, while Hon. Kiazolu encouraged residents to stay committed and collaborate in addressing the county’s health challenges.
“Before we do anything, we firstly want to say that we are wholeheartedly in this and We will take this time to prove to you that we are indeed ready, we want to let you know that we look into this and saw that there is no lie in it and so we agreed to it” Mr. Anthony Sembeh, the Town Chief of SINJE noted.
“Will like to appreciate all of us for starting this and I encourage us all to continue what we have started to help us eliminate the many difficulties we are undergoing as a county, we also want the ministry to know that we remain committed to our words and to whatever we have discussed here today” Hon. Kandakai Kiazolu, added.
The Revolving Drug Fund (RDF) Scheme is designed to maintain a steady supply of essential medicines in public health facilities by allowing patients to pay a small fee for standardized, quality medications. This model helps reduce reliance on unsafe drugs sold in the streets, with the collected funds used to restock supplies and prevent future shortages. To support the program’s rollout.
The launch concluded with a dollar rally and a day-long Training-of-Trainers workshop at the Grand Cape Mount County Health Team office. The training focused on cost-sharing management and brought together key stakeholders, including CHT, CHO, CHDD, DHO, hospital administrators, OICs, accountants, and pharmacists from various facilities such as St. Timothy Hospital, Sinje Comprehensive Health Center, WAHO Health Center, and Damballah Health Center.
