Montserrado County District #16 Representative Dixon Seboe has described the Legislative Engagement Retreat organized by Majority Bloc Speaker Richard N. Koon as a “mere pretense.”

The retreat is currently taking place at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County and features distinguished guests, including Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, and Hon. Ibrahim Rassin Bundu, Majority Leader in the Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Under the theme “Unity, Integrity, and Modernization,” the retreat is also attended by members of the Liberia Council of Churches, among others. The primary objective of this event is to emphasize the importance of unity within the House of Representatives in strengthening democracy and upholding the rule of law.

Speaking on a local radio station on Thursday, March 13, 2024, Rep. Seboe, who serves as the spokesperson for the Rule of Law Caucus, stated that the caucus would not participate in the Majority Bloc’s retreat. He mentioned that they are awaiting the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Bill of Information, scheduled for today, Friday, March 14, 2025, and expressed hope that the interpretation would be clear and unambiguous.

Rep. Seboe also criticized Speaker Koon for mentioning Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh during the retreat, noting that she is currently in the U.S. attending an International Women’s Day Conference. He called the retreat a cover-up following the Majority Bloc’s suspension of Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah and other lawmakers for expressing their opinions.

Furthermore, Rep. Seboe expressed discontent over the Majority Bloc’s actions in unlawfully removing embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and other members from the committees they were leading, while now calling for a reconciliatory meeting, which he termed as shameful. The ongoing retreat is set to conclude tomorrow, Saturday, March 15, 2025.
