LWSC Vows To Demolish Buildings On Sewage, Water Lines

The Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) has vowed to remain persistent in demolishing structures built on the sewage and water lines.

Speaking Tuesday, February 26, 2025 at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Mr. Mohammed Ali said the overflow of feces across Monrovia and adjacent parts is due to structures being built on sewage lines.

But the LWSC Managing Director said it doesn’t matter who owns the building or who is advocating on its behalf, the structure will be demolished once it threatens the pipe system.

He said the process has begun and there is absolutely no turning back, thus the issue of spillage of feces on some streets in Monrovia will be settled in the soonest possible time.

“Instead of compensation we should be taking them to court for building on the sewage line; so there will be absolutely no compensation,” he said.

Ali said the LWSC is going beyond the old way of doing things and won’t compromise with anyone having structures erected on the sewage and water lines.

He said the Ministry of Public Works has already helped the LWSC in marking structures found in violation and they will work collectively to execute the demolition exercise.

According to him, legal research will be done before the commencement of the process as they seek strong support under the Laws of the Republic of Liberia.
