The United States Ambassador to Liberia Mark Toner is urging the Liberian National Bar Association to support President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s administration efforts to secure the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court.
Amb. Toner spoke on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the induction ceremony of the newly elected officials of the Bar who will steer the affairs of the association for three years.
He said for too long, justice has been delayed or denied for far too many Liberians, and the opportunity to deliver on the long-overdue promise is before them, something they must not let slip away.
The US ambassador said new challenges are always ahead; the legal landscape is constantly evolving, and it is essential that Liberia’s legal profession adapts and innovates in response. “As leaders in the Bar, you have the power to shape the future of the legal field,” he said.
He encouraged the Bar to seek new ways to improve and grow as practitioners, ensuring that lawyers can provide the highest level of service to their clients and to the Liberian people.
Amb. Toner said as members of the legal community, “we all know that the legal profession plays a unique and vital role in a democracy. It is through your dedication that justice is served, rights are protected, and the rule of law is upheld.” He said the work of the Bar touches the lives of every Liberian, ensuring fairness, stability, and the proper functioning of the society.
