The General Auditing Commission (GAC) through the Auditor General of Liberia, P. Garswa Jackson Sr., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO), the gold standard of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI), renowned for providing top-notch capacity-building initiatives to SAIs globally.
The Auditor General and his team were invited to Washington, DC where he signed the MOU on December 12, 2024, that will see the GAC benefit from capacity-building initiatives from the U.S. GAO Center of Audit Excellence through online and in-person training.
According to the MOU, at least one auditor from the GAC will benefit from a three-month secondment program through the prestigious International Auditor Fellowship Program of the GAO annually beginning in April 2025.
“We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the Honorable Comptroller General of the United States and Head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office, Mr. Gene L. Dodaro, and his team, for the recognition, collaboration, and invaluable opportunity to enhance the capacity of our staff at the GAC,” Auditor General Jackson said.
Special thanks also go to the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy accredited near Monrovia for the respective roles played in validating the impact of our work, leading towards the signing of this MoU.
The Auditor General and his team are holding several other high-profile profile meetings with the following institutions including Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the Global Anti-Corruption Office, U.S. Department of State, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), U.S. Department of Treasury, and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
