The Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) says its attention is drawn to the Friday, November 15, 2024 edition of the Verity Newspaper with the caption” Over US $ 1.6 Million In Limbo,” attached with a photo of the Senior Political Advisor to the President, Madam Mcdella Cooper.
The MCSS states for the record, that its current budget (Operation) is US$ 300,000 and therefore lacks the financial capacity to disburse or spend US$1.6M.
However, the MCSS has encouraged the Verity Newspaper and those interested to reference the budget, and as well contact the Ministry of Finance, Development Planning to verify, confirm and validate any such payment as published by the newspaper.
The MCSS frowns at the usage of the picture of the Senior Political Advisor to the President as the photo has the proclivity to link her to the false allegations.
The institution said the picture was taken following a meeting with MCSS Superintendent, Mr. James Momoh and partners on Monday, November 11, 2024, regarding the arrival of modern chairs and desks for seven public high schools in Montserrado.
“The MCSS sees the usage of said picture as a move to draw the Madam into the media campaign and propaganda by detractors and enemies of the Superintendent resulting from internal crisis,” a release said.
The entity said that the meeting with Madam Cooper was official, as discussion focused on the President’s desire to modernize public schools under the MCSS in fulfillment of the ARREST Agenda.
Under the ARREST Agenda, the President’s vision is to focus on “Each child, one-chair-one desk” at all public schools. Such a facility provides and ensures a better learning environment as any child around the world would learn. This project provides every child the chance to sit on corrugated steel chairs that can last for 8 to 10 years without breaking down,” the MCSS said.
At the same time, MCSS wishes to announce the arrival of seven containers comprising 6500 modern sitting capacity intended for several schools including William V. S. Tubman High School; G.W. Gibson High school; D. Tweh Memorial high school; Boatwain High School; Pipeline High School; Abendu Abentsi High School.
Each of these named schools will get 925 chairs and desks. The unit cost of the set is US$55 and the total cost is US$357,500. The MSCC said the project is a service delivery payment; the Government has not paid a dime yet.
“The MSCC regrets the negative media campaign intended to distract public attention for the endeavor to change, improve and provide a modern MCSS under President Boakai. The MCSS assures the public and its partners of professionalism, accountability and integrity,” the release said.
