The United States of America goes the polls today to elect a President, Vice President, and members of the National Legislature (Congress). Over 100 million Americans are expected to choose between former President Donald J. Trump of the Republican Party and Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.
Today’s elections are very historic in the two hundred forty-eight (248) year history of the world most stable democracy.
If elected, Vice President Kamala Harris will be the first female President of the United States. She will also be the first Asian American to be elected to the Oval Office, the official office of the President of the United States. Vice President Harris is the daughter of a renowned Stanford University economist from Jamaica, and an Indian Scientist. On the other hand, if former President Donald Trump wins, he will be the first person with over thirty (30) felony convictions to be elected Chief Executive of the U.S. Most of these convictions relate to Mr. Trump’s own involvement in the activities of the 2020 elections, which the billionaire rejected as fraudulent, but has shown no proof to support his claims. Mr. Trump has also been held liable for his role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 2021, when thousands of his supporters besieged the Capitol Building and attacked lawmakers.
Vice President Harris comes to the race after serving as Attorney General of California and Senator of that State before becoming Vice President to President Josep R. Biden. She is the second female candidate after Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton to come this close to the White House. Secretary Clinton was narrowly defeated by Republican Donald J. Trumps in an election that was sent shock waves when the results were announced. Mr. Trump is a businessman and an actor who was elected in 2016.
