The Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration has disclosed that Liberia’s campaign for a seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is on course and victory is certain. Speaking Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the Ministry Of Information regular press briefing, Deputy Minister Ibrahim Nyei said Liberia will win the seat and they are strongly working towards it.

“We have secured commitments from many countries, and Liberia has been endorsed by the Africa Union (AU); they are not resting,” he said. Furthermore, he said on September 27, 2024, the campaign was launched at the United Nations headquarters where Liberia took advantage of the Global gathering to present their candidacy to all UN member states, and the country hopes to use the UNSC to ensure that it participates in, and influences the global conversations on world peace, security, climate change, justice and sustainable development.

Deputy Minister Nyei said the seat in the UNSC will position Liberia as a strategic country where other countries will engage with it, sending a clear message that Liberia is no longer a conflict affected nation.

We are going to prove that Liberia is a peaceful, democratic and progressive state and will contribute to world peace and security and this opportunity will help to rebrand Liberia’s image in a very positive way.
