The Ministry of Public Works says there will be a demolition of all “compensated structures” within the vicinity of the Proposed Overpass Interchange Bridges along the Ministerial Complex and SKD Boulevard Junction in Congo Town.
In a press release on Thursday, August 29, 2024, Public Works Minister Roland Giddings said the demolition exercise will target project affected properties that were marked and paid for by the Ministry for the construction of the overpass interchange bridges.
Minister Giddings said the demolition exercise will include affected properties for which a full compensation has been made and all new structures or buildings that have been constructed in the right-of-way after the cutoff period of August 11, 2021.
“There will be no additional compensation for new buildings erected within the right-of-way after the cutoff period. The planned demolition exercise will commence on Friday, November 1, 2024,” he said. He said all individuals within the above-mentioned categories are hereby asked to relocate from the affected/encroached structures before the start of the demolition exercise.
However, he said project affected persons who have not received resettlement compensation payments in the specified sections are asked to submit relevant title documents to the Resettlement, Environmental and Social Safeguard (ESAFE) Division of the Ministry of Public Works for prompt settlement.
