On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, a 23-year-old Liberian author, Massa I. L. Gray made a significant contribution to Liberia’s education sector by launching five intriguing and impactful books. The ceremony, held in the conference room of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Monrovia, was attended by esteemed individuals including Minister Gbeme Horace Kollie, Sister Mary Laurene Browne, Chairperson of the Angie Brooks Centre, Olubanke King-Akerele, and Cllr. Yvette Chesson-Wureh, who joined via Zoom, among others.

The launch was graced by representatives from UNDP, UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, the Liberia Association of Writers, and several academicians. Ms. Gray’s presentation highlighted the impact of her books, which align with the Liberian education system and aim to provide valuable knowledge. She expressed gratitude to those who supported her vision.

The five books launched are: “I Am a Liberian & I Am Proud Of My Roots”: A poetic celebration of patriotism, encouraging Liberians, especially youth, to embrace and honor their cultural heritage, Passion X Purpose: The Driving Force To Any Career”: A guide on personal development, emphasizing the importance of aligning passion with purpose for career success, The World Needs Solutions To Problems, Not Liabilities To Problems That Already Exist”: Focuses on character development and proactive problem-solving, aimed at young people and professionals, Satta and Tamba – Heroes of Self-Worth”: Aimed at children, this book addresses mental health awareness and anti-bullying through the story of two children overcoming adversity and Our Present Our Future, Are Linked to the Climate”: An educational book for children about climate change, fostering environmental responsibility.

Minister Gbeme Horace Kollie praised Gray’s contribution to Liberia’s education system, urging other Liberian women to view her as a motivational figure. Deputy Minister Dr. Emmanuel Toe described the launch as a significant scholastic achievement, and Madam Akerele Olubanke King-Akerele highlighted the relevance of Gray’s work in addressing societal issues.

Cllr. Yvette Chesson-Wureh, in her Zoom address, celebrated Gray’s exceptional achievement and her commitment to patriotism and national pride. She praised Gray for her dedication and impact through her writing, calling her a shining example of young leadership.

The event concluded with acknowledgements to supporters and sponsors, with a hopeful outlook on Gray’s future contributions to literature and education in Liberia.
