President Joseph N. Boakai on Sunday, August 11, 2024, met with newly inducted leaders of the Council of Chiefs at his Rehab residence. During the meeting, a video presentation on cassava and oil palm was also shown to highlight the significance of agricultural practices.

President Boakai encouraged the chiefs to work in the interest of the country and emphasized the importance of agriculture. He then presented a pickup to be used by the Chairperson, Chief Arthur W. Dowah, and also presented a generous cash donation to support transportation of the chiefs as they return to their respective counties following a weeklong orientation and election in Gompa, Nimba County, and induction in Monrovia.

Speaking on behalf of the National Council of Chiefs, Chef Arthur W. Dowah expressed gratitude to President Boakai for his support and assured him that the council will work diligently in the interest of the government.

It can be recalled that Members of the National Council of Chiefs over the weekend elected a new corps of officials replacing Chief Zanzar Kawor with Chief Arthur Dowah.  The leadership of Chief Arthur Dowah is expected to play pivotal roles in advancing cultural heritage and fostering peace within Liberia.

Paramount Chief Arthur W.  Dowah of Boinsen Chiefdom, Kokoya District, Bong County, was elected by the 15-member Council as National Chairperson in Gompa, Nimba County in the presence of a record crowd of other chiefs of the 15 counties along with County Superintendents, other local government officials, the media and civic society organizations, amongst others.

The election is in fulfillment of Chapter 3 of the Local Government Act of 2018 signed by former President George Manneh Weah in September 2018. The law, among other things, repealed the Act that created the National Traditional Council headed by Chief Zarzar Karwor, and it instead established a National Council of Chiefs
