Weah-Warned-To-Control-His-Followers

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of information, Culture and Tourism has warned former President George M. Weah to control his followers to desist from causing chaos and confusion for the state.

Speaking Tuesday July 16, 2024, at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah said the behavior displayed by partisans of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) at Robert International Airport (RIA) is unacceptable.

Minister Piah said the airport is not only used by Liberians, but also visitors from other countries; adding that he (Minister Piah) was briefed that crowd made their way to the airport, chanting slogan that they would burn down the airport if their former leader is denied entry to the terminal.

He furthered that some officials of the past administration were seen walking through the air space at the airport which is totally wrong. “The government wants to encourage the former president to control his people. You were President yesterday and you are not President anymore does not mean you should have your followers doing things that undermine the security of the country,” he said.

He added that those who were traveling through Kenya Airways found it difficult to check in, because the crowd was moving around chanting and threatening to burn down the airport. The official Spokesman of the Liberian Government said it was due to threat that personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) were deployed at the entry of the airport.

He said security personnel present at the airport were to ensure that those who were trying to enter did not succeed. Minister Piah further stated that the government is everybody’s business and former leaders play an important role in keeping the country stable.

He said the actions and behavior at the airport is unexpected and the government will not consider the continuation of such behavior.
