Labor Ministry Inspector General, Charles Brown has disclosed that about 187 Turkish citizens have been identified at Bea Mountain Mining Company without a working permit.
Speaking Thursday, July 4, 2024 on OK FM, Labor Inspector General Brown said those Turkish citizens were identified during a visit at the company in Grand Cape Mount County and they were billed for getting permits and companies were fined for violating Labor law.
Mr. Brown said there are three underground mines at the company and 169 workers that are underground are not employees of Bea Mountain.
He said the underground workers are responsible to bring the gold from underground for the company.
He said Labor Minister, Cooper Kruah denied 50 Turkish citizens work permits for jobs that belong to Liberians.
According to him, Turkish citizens at Bea Mountain Company are even laying blocks, driving trucks, doing catering and many other jobs that belong to Liberians.
“At Bea Mountain, you will count 150 Turkish citizens before you count one Liberian but Labor needs to be proactive because labor violation is like a branch of a tree that is growing,” he noted.
