President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has constituted a committee on rice to ensure the stability of the country’s staple.
An Executive Mansion release indicated that the committee is expected to undertake tasks put forth by the President.
The committee, according to the release, will formulate policy to ensure constant and steady supply of rice in the country and formulate strategy for accelerated local production of rice and import substitution.
They will ensure Liberians’ participation in the importation and distribution of rice throughout the country, formulate policy for the effective reactivation and management of the Rice Stabilization Fund and also ensure database of rice, price comparison of major rice producing countries and the grades of rice
Those appointed by the President to serve on the committee include, Charles Minor, Chairman, David Vinton, Member and Tenaky Toure Kaba, Member,
President Boakai also named other members of the Committees, which include Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Fouta Corporation, National Port Authority, Liberia Business Association, Liberia Marketing Association, National Transport Union of Liberia, Liberia Bankers Association, National Civil Society Council of Liberia and Rural Women Organization of Liberia.
