The Liberian Senate has inducted the newest Senator of Nimba County, Nya D. Twayen following his certification by the National Elections Commission (NEC) as winner of the April 22, 2024 by-election.
The Liberian Senate presided over by its Pro Tempore, Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence, administered the oath of office on Thursday, May 16, 2024 and officially welcomed Senator Twayen.
Twayen’s election to the Senate followed a vacancy created by the election of Jeremiah K. Koung as Vice President of Liberia who previously served as Senator for Nimba County.
In consonance with rule 1, section 1 and 2 of the standing rules and procedures of the Liberian Senate, the Senator-elect presented his Certificate of election and was then sworn in by the Secretary of the Senate, J. Nanborlor F. Singbeh, Sr.
The new Nimba county Senator was then duly escorted to his official seat by Senators Edwin M. Snowe, Jr., Prince Moye, and Gbenzongar M. Findley upon instruction by Pro Tempore Lawrence.
In a brief statement, Senator Twayen commended the people of Nimba for their confidence reposed in him as their new leader.
He stated that his first objective is to work in the interest of the people by promoting unity and improvement toward the livelihood of the citizenry of Nimba.
Twayen called on citizens of Nimba especially national leaders to put aside politics and focus on issues that will be in the best interest of Nimba and its people.
Senator Twayen will complete the unexpired tenure of former Senator, now Vice President, Jeremiah K Koung.
