Assistant Minister of State for Presidential Affairs George Marshall says President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is making every effort to establish Liberia’s long-awaited War and Economic Crimes Courts to prosecute individuals accused of committing atrocities during the country’s civil wars.
Marshall said President Boakai has consistently sought support, advice, and guidance from experienced and respected leaders during his national and international engagements on how Liberia can achieve the establishment of the courts. He disclosed that the government has made an initial budgetary allocation of several million United States dollars to support the process and ensure it moves forward.
According to Marshall, President Boakai has assured the public that the courts will be established in 2027. He made the statement Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the opening of a two-day narrative workshop for journalists and editors from Montserrado and Margibi Counties. The workshop, being held at I-Campus in Monrovia from August 12–13, focuses on strengthening journalists’ skills and understanding of war and economic crimes-related information and issues.
