The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has officially disowned a fraudulent letter circulating on social media, falsely attributed to Nigeria’s Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and addressed to Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr, described the document as fake, unauthorized, and deliberately designed to mislead the public and sow discord between the two friendly nations.

The purported letter, allegedly signed by Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, referenced statements by a Nigerian religious leader, but according to the Ministry, it contains several inconsistencies with established diplomatic communication procedures and official correspondence protocols of the Ministry.

“The Ministry wishes to categorically state that the said letter is fake, unauthorized, and did not emanate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any official channel of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Ebienfa said. “The document should be regarded as a fabrication intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary diplomatic discord between two friendly nations.”

The Ministry urged the public, media organizations, and the diplomatic community to disregard the letter entirely and refrain from circulating unverified documents. Security agencies have been notified and are taking appropriate measures to identify the source of the fraudulent document and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and responsible diplomatic engagement, the Ministry assured the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia of Nigeria’s continued friendship, goodwill, and highest consideration.
