Nimba County was declared winners of the bronze medal (Third-place) of the 2023/24 National County Meet at the SKD this evening.
The match was prematurely ended after Grand Bassa walked out of the pitch following a penalty awarded to Nimba. They protested that the penalty was unfair and after a long delayed, the ref called the game a day and the decision was taken to turn the Third-place over to the six-times County Meet champions.
The match was one-zero in favor Bassa when Nimba got the penalty after captain Josiah Cea was brought down in the Grand Bassa penalty area by Stephen Kollie around the 55th minute.
In the third place kickball category, Lofa County kickball team was the winner of the third place of this year’s National County Sports Meet.
The girls of Wologisi defeated the Blue Lake girls of Bomi County 4-2 home runs to win the third place championship.
In addition to the $50,000.00LD given to them as cash award, Ecobank also provided $250,000.00LD. In total, Lofa County kickball team received LD $300,000.00 as cash award.
