In a significant move to meet project deadlines for delivering electricity to citizens of Voinjama, Massambolahun, Bolahun, Kolahun, Foya, and surrounding communities, the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA), in collaboration with the World Bank, has concluded a rigorous one-day field visit to project sites in Lofa County.
The visit followed a previous assessment conducted in December 2025 and aimed to evaluate progress made on project activities while identifying challenges requiring urgent attention ahead of the project’s closing date.
During the visit, contractors reported that out of the 10,000 planned connections in the BOQ, 8,311 meters have been fully installed, with customers now awaiting electricity supply through the distribution lines.
All solar equipment has been delivered to the site, and installation is currently in full progress. Fencing of the 40-acre project site is ongoing, alongside the construction of key facilities. In addition, the 1.8 MW diesel power plant has been completed and tested, while over 350 km of distribution lines have been installed, with connections continuing for more than 10,000 homes and businesses.
The Liberia Renewable Energy Access Project (LIRENAP), funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Government of Liberia through RREA, represents a major step toward achieving reliable and sustainable electricity access in Lower Lofa. With a total funding envelope of US$27 million (including a US$25 million grant and US$2 million IDA financing), the project aligns with Liberia’s national electrification and development priorities.
The visit was led by RREA Project Coordinator Theophilus A. T. Kambo Jr. and World Bank Team Lead Maame Ankoh. Findings from the visit will be reviewed with RREA management, contractors, and the World Bank to develop strategies for addressing bottlenecks and ensuring successful project completion, marking a key milestone in Liberia’s energy sector.
