Over 6,000 young partisans of the Unity Party under the banner “The Forgotten Youth of Bong County” have expressed their dissatisfaction over the party’s failure to provide opportunities for those who stood by them during their political journey.
The team, led by William Lamie, criticized President Joseph Boakai’s administration for neglecting the youth supporters who backed the Unity Party in both local and national elections, but despite their commitment and sacrifices, they have not received any form of empowerment, employment, or educational opportunities from the party since Boakai took office on January 22, 2024.
Lamie told reporters of their frustration over the party’s unfulfilled promises on grounds that when they supported Unity Party candidates, including former Senator Dr. Henrique Flomo Tokpah and Senator Prince Moye, they expected their loyalty to be recognized.
He said they are giving the party this month to show that they value the group and to put their house in order or they will be open to collaborating with other groups ahead of the 2029 elections.
He said the group has a membership base of approximately 6,000 individuals, many of whom are deeply frustrated by the lack of opportunities.
These members, described as dedicated supporters of the Unity Party, are now considering breaking ties with the party if they continue to feel marginalized.
Richard Flomo, another member, said that the current administration’s choices have demotivated the youth as people in power today were given opportunities at their expense, and it is painful to see their interest being neglected.
The aggrieved Unity Party youth said their frustration is not solely about personal gain but about the general issue of youth empowerment in Bong County, including opportunities for jobs education, a platform to grow, not empty promises.
As the month progresses, the Forgotten Youth of Bong County is prepared to make a final decision on its alignment which would reflect the collective interest of the group.
The Unity Party-Bong Chapter has not yet issued an official response to these claims.
